The RetroBolt-M-xx-ICA series of piezo-electric force sensors provides a direct measurement of force in tension or compression. Each sensor includes an integrated charge amplifier for high-sensitivity, low-drift, low-impedance output signals. These sensors are packaged as tension-sensitive washers for use under load-bearing bolts. Here, they measure the small changes in bolt tension that result from cutting forces exerted on the tool. In many applications, they provide truly retrofittable force-monitoring capability without the need for any mechanical modifications to the machine. RetroBolts can be installed quickly and easily on lathes with bolt-on turrets or tool blocks. In this type of application, RetroBolts can be used to detect overloads or collisions, missing grooving tools, and gross tool breakage.
Montronix presents force sensors with integrated charge amplifiers (ICA) designed specifically for fixed tool applications such as lathes, presses, and broaches.
Application
Tool monitoring (tool breakage, missing tool)
Collision detection
Recognition of incorrect dimensions of parts
Field of Application
Tool machines (especially on lathes, turrets) in all branches of industry
Montronix force sensors RetroBoltSG-Mxx are single-axis, strain gauge force sensors available in various configur-
ations. By integrating a preamplifier, RetroBoltSG-Mxx sensors provide excellent sensitivity and a low-impedance, practically drift-Iess signal output.
Mounted by a single bolt in a package together with solid shims, a RetroBoltSG-Mxx sensor measures the strain on the bolt head. This strain is caused by internal forces (compression and tension) of the manufacturing process. Thus, the RetroBoltSG-Mxx sensors offer real force monitoring without having to make any changes to the machine. They are particularly suited to detect collisions as weil as missing or broken tools.
Their small size, their single-bolt mounting, and thelr robust construction make the RetroBoltSG-Mxx force sensors perfectly suited for industrial monitoring applications.

The FS3xCXK-x-ICA series of piezo-electric force sensors provides a direct measurement of X, Y, and Z axis forces. Their integrated charge amplifiers provide high-sensitivity, low-drift, low-impedance output signals. These sensors are typically imbedded in a milled pocket or spacer-plate located within the machine structure. This sensor is typically used in lathe applications requiring higher monitoring performance than is available with single-axis or RetroBolt force sensors. It can be used to detect overloads or collisions, missing tools, broken tools, and in some applications, chipped tools and worn tools.

The force sensors of the series FS1xCXK-x-ICA™ together with one of our electronic units of types TSxx™ / SPECTRA™ is the perfect solution for:
The error identification within the process, |
The Montronix force sensors of the series FS1xCXK-x-ICA are piezoelectric force transducers, which are available as single axis or three axes sensors in different types (cable outlet straight/angled).
A high sensitivity and a low drift characterize the FS1xCXK-x-ICA sensors. Equipped with an integrated charge amplifier (ICA) it affords a low-impedance signal output.
The mounting will be realized within milling pockets or between force platforms, which are located within the machine structure directly and thereby in the load path. The FS1xCXK-x-ICA sensors will be used particularly for the detection of collisions, missing tools, and tool breakages.
The FS1xCXK-x-ICA force sensors are excellent suited for industrial monitoring applications due to its compact design, the fixing with only one bolt, the robust construction, and selectable measuring ranges.
